JOY Prison Ministry
Jesus Others Yourself
JOY Prison Ministry has been humbly and faithfully ministering to inmates in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice system for 30 years under the vision of Mama Gertha Rogers. All of JOY's members are volunteers who travel approximately 35,000 miles annually.
Our ministry’s volunteers currently visit over 30 prisons and jails statewide to spread the word of God to over 26,000 individuals which includes guards and inmates! Over 12,000 inmates have given or rededicated their lives to Christ during our prison services in 2011 alone!
Breaking the bondage of sin through the preaching of the Gospel
You may have the answers to someone's problems, but if not delivered IN LOVE, it profits nothing...
1 Corinthians 13
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
JOY members are the only family and visitors some inmates have. Our contact helps them get familiar with the outside as we minister Christ to them. We know this is a great benefit to them as well as the communities they will reenter. Many of them are overcome with tears of joy and thankfulness as they feel the love and compassion expressed by donations from communities they may have violated. Their brokenness and humility can only be attributed to the sincere love with which every donation was given.
We realize everyone is not able to go into prisons, but would be willing to lend support in other ways. Your support and/or gifts help direct the brotherhood of man in a more positive way. We have many success stories of ex-offenders who have been released from prison who were ministered to by JOY and who now work with the ministry giving back to society!
JOY is a non-profit organization (501(c)(3) certified) and all contributions are tax deductible. We welcome donations of any kind (food, toiletries, financial, etc.) no matter how small or large because it is God that will multiply your seed. Your prayers and support are sincerely appreciated. Thank you for caring!
JOY is not a halfway house, but provides referrals to local organizations. We join our faith with yours that the Father is opening doors for quick and safe releases. Do not entertain any fear that you won't have needs met upon release. God is faithful and we must not let our faith waver in His ability to provide for us. Rejoice and thank Him NOW for what He is preparing for you. Praise Him in your spirit constantly, and worship Him when things do not look like they are working out! We pray for peaceful and safe transitions. Know for sure that we here at Joy Prison Ministry love you, and you are continually in our prayers. God Bless!
